Incident reporting

Summary – If in doubt, please report the incident to the LMAS using the form below. Once that is done please step through the online BMFA wizard to see if reporting to CAA/AAIB is necessary.

An LMAS incident report can be filled out and submitted for any incident, but reporting is mandatory for incidents that meet one or more of the following criteria:

  1. A landing/crash OUTSIDE the reporting boundary* for the site (site maps – RFC and Wilbury; if not sure if it was outside the boundary, please report it anyway!), and/or;
  2. Where there was an injury to a member or uninvolved 3rd party, and/or;
  3. Where there was damage to property belonging to a member or uninvolved 3rd party, and/or;
  4. Where an uninvolved party was put at risk (i.e. a near miss) and/or made a complaint (on the day or afterwards).

* Reporting boundaries have been set in line with the minimum distances to uninvolved persons in the Article 16 Authorisation (i.e. 30m minimum during flight, 15m minimum on take-off/landing).

Depending on the nature of the incident there may also be a requirement to report it to the CAA and/or AAIB. To help determine if this is necessary the BMFA have created an online wizard based on basic questions to determine the correct action in each instance.
